Turner Hill Country Club

Turner Hill is brand new golf in Ipswich with expensive homes and gorgeous landscaping. No expense is spared at Turner and the reviews are excellent. I'll be playing Turner Hill in a few weeks and I'll be back with a new review.

Bass Rocks Golf Club

Hearing the continual crashing of waves during your round would seem like a good thing but be careful not to let your game get too relaxed at this ocean-near course in Gloucester. There are some touch shots to be made at this links style shorter 18 hole course. The course is manicured lovely, the ocean air can play with your shots, and feeling of playing vacation golf is enjoyed all summer long at Bass Rocks. This course is so close to Good Harbor Beach that parking requires a club sticker. No tee times at Bass Rocks, just make your groups take some snacks for the walk. If you can make it through the first 14 holes with a decent score, the last four "The Meadows" provide birdie opportunities and double fairways. The new clubhouse also has a great menu of quick after golf faire.

Fresh Pond Golf Course

Located in the Huron Ave. area of Cambridge, Fresh Pond is a Donald Ross Designed 9 hole oasis. Golfing at Fresh Pond is what I imagine golfing is France is like. I don't know why but play there and you might agree with me. It's tough to wait less than an hour and play in less than 3 hours at Fresh Pond on the weekend and the price is pretty high for a shorter nine holer but the location can't be beat. Fresh Pond is a course that you have to play if you're looking for city golf. Bob Carey, the Head Pro, has one of the most completely stocked pro shops available. If you are looking for something in any price range, he's probably got something for your swing and your budget. Play on a day when it's overcast and everyones scared away, then you'll enjoy a relaxing round and Fresh Pond.

Ferncroft Country Club

Ferncroft Country Club is conveniently located at the intersection of route 1 and 95. Follow the signs to Ferncroft Road and you'll pass a Crowne Plaza Hotel and Cocoa Key Water Park, then a business park and apartment buildings, followed by fairway view townhomes and quiet single family homes. You truly are in a golf community. Come to the entrance in the summer months and you may see the bleachers set up for the Boston Lobsters Pro Tennis League. This year highlighted by Anna Kournikova and Martina Hingis Tennis takes place near the pool area with towel service, a full bar with cabana service. We haven't even come to the golf course yet. There is a 7 hole executive course along with two practice greens and a large driving range, which just had the turf recently re-done.

Ferncroft Country Club is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. Championship Design. It was home to the LPGA Boston Five Classic from 1980-1990. The 13th Hole was ranked one of the most difficult holes in New England and the 18th is considered one of the most scenic finishing holes on the North Shore.
